Before being named acting CIO, Chan served as CIO of New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. In 2008 he was named the New York Public Sector CIO of the Year for his work developing myBenefits, a website to connect New York State families and community partners with benefits services and work support through an e-government hub for human services. Chan’s use of open source technology in developing myBenefits applications also earned him an award by the Government Open Source Conference in 2010 in the category of Outstanding Deployment of Open Source Software.
